Ukraine performs in the grand final of Eurovision Song Contest 2023: TVORCHI impresses European fans with a song about the steel hearts of Azovstal defenders

Ukraine performs in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023

On Saturday, May 13, the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 on behalf of Ukraine started in Liverpool, UK, with participants from 26 countries competing for the crystal microphone. The Ukrainians, who this year automatically qualified for the final on the basis of last year's triumph, finally took to the stage. The TVORCHI duo presented their entry song Heart of Steel at number 19.

OBOZREVATEL learned about this while watching the live broadcast. The Ukrainian musicians wrote their composition, which translates to "Hearts of Steel", under the impression of the struggle of the indomitable defenders of Azovstal.

On the stage of the grand show, the duo members Andriy Gutsulyak and Jeffrey Kenny appeared in luxurious costumes by world-renowned Ukrainian designer Ivan Frolov. Voluminous gold and silver hearts were pulsating on the artists' chests.

The author of the composition is Andrii Hutsuliak. He said: "I couldn't imagine how hard it was for them (Azovstal's defenders - ed.) and how it must have seemed like the end, but I saw fire, willpower and indomitability in their eyes. It gave me shivers down my spine. Under these emotions, I wrote this song."

The lyrics and translation of the track can be found in our material.

However, not so long ago, Heart of Steel acquired another meaning and an important mission. The song has become a symbol of a charity initiative called Caring People Saving Children's Hearts. The goal of this project is to raise UAH 10 million to purchase 10 incubators to save premature babies during a full-scale war. On the first day of the project's launch, they managed to raise over $200,000 (over UAH 7 million). At Eurovision, TVORCHI repeatedly talked about this campaign to attract the attention of the contest's fans from all over the world.

In the auditorium, the Ukrainian performance received a standing ovation. Meanwhile, the bookmakers predicted that we would take third place.
