TV presenter Svitlana Volnova confesses the tragic circumstances that forced her to go to Russia during the war
TV presenter Svitlana Volnova admitted that she visited Russia after 2014 when the war in eastern Ukraine broke out. She went to attend her father's funeral.
Svitlana Volnova told about this in an interview with OBOZ.UA. The TV presenter also said that she is currently in contact with her relatives in St. Petersburg, where she was born and raised, but added that at the beginning of the Russian invasion, she had an unpleasant conversation with her sister.
"The last time I was in Russia was for my father's funeral in 2017, and my mother was already dead by then," says Svitlana. But after that, that was it. What was the point? After 2014, when the war in eastern Ukraine started, we had nothing to do there."
Svitlana Volnova was born and raised in Leningrad, Russia (now St. Petersburg). She moved to Ukraine at the age of 24 to follow her husband, who was in the military. She says she has relatives in Russia: "I have a cousin in St. Petersburg. She has known what has been happening here since day one, and she is on our side. However, at first, everything was a little different. I remember calling her, telling her that the city was being bombed, and she said: "It's yours." I was shocked: "Liena, are you in your right mind?" I had a very serious conversation with her, and she understood me. We continue to stay in touch because the roots of the family are important."
