The punishment is too lenient. Prosecutors appeal against the sentence of Ostap Stupka, who committed a drunken car accident

The prosecutor's office appealed the sentence to Ostap Stupka

The Kyiv Prosecutor's Office has appealed the sentence handed down to the famous Ukrainian actor Ostap Stupka, who caused a car accident in the capital in April this year while he was heavily intoxicated. On November 24, the Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv sentenced the star to three years' restriction of liberty, but the prosecutor's office disagreed with this decision.

The department believes that the punishment for the culprit of the accident was "too lenient." The press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office reported on the appeal against the verdict, UNN reports.

"The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office appealed the sentence of 3 years in prison handed down to actor Ostap Stupka for a drunken driving accident, claiming that the punishment was too lenient. An appeal was filed today," the statement said.

It should be noted that on November 24, when the court announced the verdict against the artist, the press service of the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office said in a comment to OBOZ.UA: "The court passed a verdict - found him guilty under the article he is charged with and sentenced him to 3 years of restraint of liberty with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 8 years. The prosecutor's office will appeal this decision, as we asked for a real punishment in the form of imprisonment. We do not agree and will appeal."

As a reminder, in addition to restricting his freedom for 3 years, the court also ordered the star to pay about 10 thousand hryvnias for the examinations and to take away his driver's license for 8 years. Neither the artist nor the prosecution was satisfied with this scenario. The star's lawyers are preparing an appeal.

At the pre-trial hearing, Stupka was charged with violating traffic safety rules while intoxicated, which caused serious bodily harm to the victim.

The victim, named Yaroslav, who was hospitalized after the accident, said that he spent three days unconscious in intensive care, underwent surgery, and continues to undergo treatment. According to the driver of the Mitsubishi that the actor's Range Rover hit, he saw the culprit only a few times.

The accident occurred on Fedorov Street in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. Investigators found that Stupka drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into a parked car driven by a 38-year-old driver.

Afterward, he said that he did not consider himself a criminal, and the actor called the accident an accident. Moreover, according to the celebrity, this incident was sent to him by fate or "a father from heaven."

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Ivan Franko National Academic Theater publicly reacted to the accident. They believe that the accident is not a reason to fire the actor. Stupka himself has recently confidently stated that he is thankful to God that "everyone is alive and well," and that this story should be over soon.
