The world's oldest Siamese twins have died: how old were Lori and George Chappell and how did they look

Lori and George Chappell have died

In Pennsylvania, USA, the world's oldest Siamese twins, Lori and George Chappell, who were listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, have died. Their lives were cut short at the age of 62.

According to the official website, the twins died on Sunday, April 7, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Lori and George were born on September 18, 1961. Unlike other popular Siamese twins, their heads, not their bodies, were fused. The Chappells had fused skulls, shared blood vessels, and 30% of their brain.

However, this did not prevent them from being separate individuals. Lori was born able-bodied, while George suffered from a spinal malformation and could not walk. He sat in a wheelchair, which did not prevent him from building a career as a country singer.

Lori was very good at bowling, and winning trophies. They found a balance between work and touring.

Interestingly, the Chappells identified themselves as representatives of different genders. In 2007, George began to introduce himself as a man after he came out as transgender. Until then, he was called Reba.

The life of Siamese twins surprised many people. They had different bedrooms and took turns living in them, and in the bathroom, one twin would stay outside the shower while the other bathed. Despite the inconvenience, they never wanted to be separated.

The twins did not live up to any of the predictions of doctors who said they would not live to be 30. In 2015, Lori and George Chappell became the oldest conjoined twins in history. They outlived many relatives and friends and gained a considerable fan base.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote about Siamese twins from the United States, whose mother hid the children from people for several years, but eventually decided to even create a blog about their lives.
