Ukraine's Foreign Ministry strongly condemns Jared Leto for his intention to perform in Russia

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has reacted sharply to a statement by American actor and musician Jared Leto about his desire to visit Russia and Ukraine after the war ends. The artist was speaking to a mostly Russian audience at a Thirty Seconds to Mars concert in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

While the musician should have been communicating with the Serbian audience, as he came to their homeland, he appealed to Russians and told them how much he adored this nation. The Foreign Ministry drew attention to Jared Leto's attempts to avoid the word "war" by calling it a "problem" and how he insulted Ukrainians who are sacrificing their lives to solve this "problem."

Jared Leto's "feeling of Russian energy" and his desire to perform in Russia is an insult to those who sacrifice their lives defending freedom. There can be no appeasement for Russia as it continues its attempts to solve the 'problem' of Ukraine's very existence," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The actor's statement, in which he expressed a desire to "hang out and have fun" with fans in their homelands of Serbia and Russia, is being widely discussed online. He did not mention Ukrainians but strangely added Kyiv to the list of cities he wants to visit with a concert.

First of all, the musician asked how many Serbs and Russians were in the audience. The audience started cheering when he asked about Russians. There were much more of them.

"Did you miss us? I felt a lot of Russian energy around me. And here's what I'll tell you: one day, when all these problems are over, we will meet you in your homeland. We'll come back to Serbia, we'll go to St. Petersburg, Moscow, we'll stop by Kyiv. We will hang out and have fun. That's how it should be," Leto said.

The musician then allegedly switched to Russian and said "Thank you" to show that he was on the same page as most of his fans.

Jared Leto has not yet commented on the incident.

Jared Leto has not commented on the allegation.

Earlier, he demonstrated his support for our country by attending charity events, such as a gala in Italy, singing a song about Odesa, and expressing his desire to come to Ukraine and "wave the Ukrainian flag on stage." Jared Leto also came to Ukraine in 2014, and soon afterward, while receiving an Oscar, he said how he "supports Ukrainians who dream of living in democracy."
