The well-known British journalist and BBC presenter Dr. Michael Mosley, who was found dead on a Greek island after a five-day search, most likely died of "heat exhaustion." These preliminary findings were made public by the police.
According to law enforcement, the air temperature in Greece on the day of the presenter's death reached 40°C. Michael Mosley, 67, "sat down and lost consciousness" while walking on the island of Simi. His body was found just 260 feet (about 80 meters) from the resort, the Daily Mail reports.
The initial autopsy conducted by Rhodes Coroner Despina Nettena revealed that there were no signs of a violent death and no "criminal" element on Michael Mosley's body. There were no traces of a strong fall, as mentioned earlier. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been established. Additional pathological examinations will be conducted to determine this.
The autopsy report also states that the well-known British presenter died on the day he was put on the wanted list.
The police chief of the Greek island of Simi, Dimos Kotsidaras, said that Michael Mosley died of heat stroke. "It seems that the cause of death was exhaustion in the intense heat after walking from St. Nicholas Beach to Ayia Marina," the police officer suggested.
Police are also investigating footage from the restaurant that shows Dr. Mosley wandering around in a confused state for twenty minutes before collapsing. In the video, the presenter stops for a moment against a wall, leaning on it with one hand, before losing his balance and disappearing from view. Apparently, the air temperature, which reached 40 degrees on the day of Mosley's death, was fatal for him.
The TV doctor was a long-time presenter of popular programs on the BBC. His simple and accessible health tips in the Radio 4 series Just One Thing attracted 25 million listeners worldwide.
Mosley was also a well-known author of diet books that promoted fasting and calorie reduction. And his EMMY Award-winning series Are We Changing Planet Earth.
