The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to Alina Grosu's "diplomatic post" in the United States: who the singer actually became
Ukrainian singer Alina Grosu was not appointed to official diplomatic posts in the United States. At a meeting with New York City Mayor Eric Adams, organized to support our country, she acted as a private citizen.
This was reported in a comment to OBOZ.UA by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The press service denied the rumors spread by the media.
Many media outlets claimed that the singer, who has been living in the United States since 2022, has become the "official representative of Ukrainian culture on a permanent basis" in New York. The announcement was made at her concert.
"It is an honor for me. I will continue to work to represent Ukraine in the world with dignity. I am glad that I received such an important mission after the presentation of my new Ukrainian-language album at a concert in America. I am pleased that my work was recognized in this way," the singer commented on social media.
After Grosu attended the New York City mayor's dinner party, a number of media outlets wrote that she did so "in her new status."
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained the situation:
"We do not know where the information that singer Alina Grosu 'received a diplomatic position in New York' came from. Given the resonance of this information in the media, we must officially clarify that Alina Grosu does not hold any full-time or part-time positions in the system of bodies of the diplomatic service of Ukraine to perform diplomatic or consular functions."
As a reminder, at the meeting with Mayor Eric Adams, Grosu was accompanied by Miss Universe Ukraine 2024 Alina Ponomarenko and members of the Eastern European Community of New York.
As reported by OBOZ.UA:
- On July 8, the day of the Russian missile attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv, Alina Grosu posted a video of herself dancing in a revealing dress. Later, she apologized for her actions and justified that she had not seen the news due to her stay abroad.
- She also allegedly performed at a celebration in the United States, singing the song "White Roses" by Yuri Shatunov, a man who was going to fight against Ukrainians in Donbas.
