The men stayed, the woman returned to Ukraine: the scandal with the artists of the Lviv Opera continued
The scandal surrounding the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Solomiia Krushelnytska continued when it became known that one of the soloists, Yulia Mykhalikha-Roma, returned to Ukraine from abroad, while two of her male colleagues did not. An internal investigation is currently underway.
The day before, a meeting of the ballet company was held at the theater, where they discussed, among other things, the outrageous act of the ballet's leading soloist Andrii Mykhalikh and artist Bohdan Kliuchnyk. This was reported on the company's Facebook page.
"We discussed the situation that has gained media publicity – with the artists who did not return from the tour. For the media that are actively interested in this incident, we emphasize: as of today, ballet dancer Yulia Mikhalikha-Roma has returned to work at the theater," the post reads.
The outraged public was assured that, by the current labor law, the theater administration is conducting an internal official investigation into the men who stayed abroad.
Now the "motives and circumstances of the act" of Andrii Mikhalikh and Bohdan Kliuchnyk are being investigated. Earlier, the media reported that they had informed their colleagues online that they did not plan to return to Lviv.
The theater did not inform the artists about this decision, so Ukrainians learned about it from journalists citing sources in the theater community.
They also did not explain why the pages of both people involved in the scandal disappeared from the website but expressed hope that the media would follow "art events, cultural initiatives, and large-scale premieres" as closely in the future.
