Laura La Rue, a 32-year-old former model, gave up the glitz and glamor of Los Angeles to live in the countryside. Now, instead of a luxurious apartment, the star lives in a renovated school bus surrounded by California nature.

"Most people get married, buy a house and have kids. That's what I wanted - a safe haven where I can have people over and enjoy the basics. Fortunately, the way I live doesn't require a lot of money," she said in a recent interview with the LA Times.

La Rue used to work with famous photographers such as David LaChapelle and was also spotted in the company of Hollywood actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio. But after she dropped out of school at 16 to follow her modeling ambitions, Laura felt a longing for nature - just as she had when she was a little girl. "I was tired of city life," she says, "I thought: "I don't like this at all. I could feel my cortisol levels going through the roof. I had health problems caused by stress."

"I was on a ridiculous model diet, and I wanted to change myself," she continues, "I started going to therapy and spending time alone to work on myself. In 2016, La Rue finally gave up her toxic job and relationship and moved back to a small cabin on her mother's ranch in Santa Paulo. Her modest home was subsequently destroyed by fires in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties in 2017.

During her healing journey, La Rue fell in love with a man who worked on her mother's ranch, and the couple soon set off on an adventure living in a trailer. However, the romance began to fall apart when Laura became pregnant and then realized that living off the grid was not conducive to raising a family. She decided to settle on a piece of land and build her own makeshift house inside an old bus.

"It was already equipped," she told the newspaper. It has a composting toilet, shower, stove and oven. It also has "the perfect [sleeping] place for a child." In addition to her DIY home, La Rue has also managed to build a new career as a tai dye artist, launching her brand Ride or Dye Ojai during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, her YouTube channel has more than 26,000 subscribers, and she spends her days creating tutorials, holding workshops, and selling her own unique works.

"My goal is to inspire people to change their lives for the better and not be afraid to take risks," says the mother of a 16-month-old girl, Laska. La Rue adds that she and her daughter "do everything outside." "It's the best way for a child to grow," she explains.
