Nigeria's First Lady criticizes Meghan Markle for her nudity

More than a week after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's trip to Nigeria, the country's first lady, Remi Tinubu, criticized the image of the prince's wife for her alleged frankness. At an official event, she spoke about the "ideal of beauty" of her compatriots, mentioning the Duchess of Sussex as an example of immorality.

In her speech at an event marking the anniversary of President Bola Tinubu's rule, the woman said she had to "save children" from nudity in the images of American and European stars. According to the Mirror, the first lady of Nigeria took Meghan Markle's expensive jewelry and bare arms, back, and legs as an insult.

"We have to save our children. We see how they dress. They keep forgetting that Nigeria, that we are beautiful. You can see what they show on stage, I said: 'We are fashionable, we see what's going on,'" said Remi Tinubu.

She said that any nudity is ugly and unfashionable. In particular, the first lady spoke for all Nigerian women, saying that they do not want to look like Hollywood stars.

"We're not going to have a Met Gala. And nudity is everywhere, and men are well-dressed. So we have to do something. Tell them that we don't accept nudity in our culture. It's not beautiful. It's not beautiful at all. And they are all beautiful girls, but they have to be confident in who they are. They don't want to imitate and try to emulate movie stars from America," Tinubu continued.

That's when she mentioned Meghan Markle with a touch of hate for her allegedly self-serving trip to Nigeria: "Why did Meghan come here looking for Africa? We have something to take home with us. We know who we are. Don't lose who you are."

On social network X, some Internet users defended Meghan Markle and suggested that it was not about her at all: "The message is not for her. Stop worrying about her."

However, it was the criticism that was the most critical. People consider the extravagant outfit to be the Duchess of Sussex's lack of manners and her desire for another PR stunt:

  • "It's hard to believe that after allegedly studying international relations in college, she doesn't know the first basic rule of international relations - always respect another country and its culture."
  • "Meghan obviously lacks both border recognition and respect."
  • "A carefully planned trip to Nigeria only shows what they wanted to show... I wonder if this will end up on a Netflix show... I highly doubt it."
  • "The skin show put her back in the news because what else has she been doing lately?"
  • "She could care less about 'her country' and its culture. This trip was for the PR audience of American celebrities and it was all about her, not Nigeria."
  • "Considering she is supposed to be a duchess, she dresses like a cheap cake."
