The 77th Cannes Film Festival opens: with Russians on the red carpet and director Loznitsa defending Russian culture

Cannes film festival opens with Russians on the red carpet

The world's most popular film festival in Cannes opened its doors to industry professionals from all over the world the day before. This year's competition is rather cold on the war in Ukraine, but loyal enough to invite Russians.

The only director from Ukraine who will present his work this year is Serhiy Loznitsa, who was disgracefully expelled from the Ukrainian Film Academy. OBOZ.UA will tell you how the opening took place.

Russian model Tatyana Korsakova became the honored guest of the film festival, walking the red carpet in a green velvet dress.

Russian model, entrepreneur, and presenter Elena Lenina also impressed with her clumsy look, wearing her hair in a high ponytail and combining it with a colorful dress and bright makeup.

The third but, unfortunately, not the last Russian woman at the opening was designer Yulia Yanina and her eldest daughter Dasha.

As it became known in the spring, Sergei Loznitsa, who in 2022 got into a scandal at the same film festival, is preparing to present his film in Cannes. Back then, instead of talking about torture and murder in Russia, the director defended the Russian language.

This year, he plans to present the film Invasion, about the life of Ukrainians in the rear during a full-scale Russian invasion.

"I made this movie with a deep pain in my heart and a great love for my country. This film was born out of compassion," Serhiy Loznitsa commented on the work, but in the comments he continues to be called a "Ukrainophobe."

Recall that due to controversial statements, as well as collaboration with the Russian film festival From Lviv to the Urals, Loznitsa was expelled from the Ukrainian Film Academy in 2022. After that, the director was spotted in Germany with Russian colleagues.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Oksana Zabuzhko commented on Loznitsa's position. She explained why the world considered the scandalous director "Ukrainian".
