Taylor Swift canceled concerts in Austria due to a possible terrorist attack: police reveal ISIS plans

Taylor Swift canceled concerts in Austria due to a possible terrorist attack

The world-famous American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift canceled three concerts from her "The Eras Tour" in the Austrian capital, Vienna, due to a potential terrorist threat. According to local police, the attack was being prepared by a group of teenagers who had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) group.

The star's music shows were to take place on August 8, 9 and 10 at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, the Daily Mail reports. Initially, the promoters of the event intended to strengthen security measures, but after law enforcement confirmed the possible threat, the performances had to be canceled.

According to representatives of the police in the Austrian capital, they were informed about the planning of a terrorist attack at one of Taylor Swift's concerts, so they were monitoring the suspects' actions. Franz Ruf, Director General for Public Security at the Ministry of the Interior, said that the attack was planned by a 19-year-old boy and his partner, who were members of the ISIS group.

Law enforcement officers searched the house where the teenagers lived and arrested the perpetrators. Explosives experts found chemicals in the room that could have been used as components for a bomb.

"The suspects were focused on Taylor Swift concerts. We found that they took all the necessary measures to prepare for the attack," explained Franz Ruf.

The expert added that despite the fact that the potential threat was averted, the Austrian authorities do not consider the concert safe, as the investigation into the accomplices of the crime continues. Because of this, the promoters of the 34-year-old pop singer's music show in Vienna had to announce the cancellation of the event on their social media.

"Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Vienna concerts have been canceled due to government confirmation of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion. We have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for the sake of everyone's safety," the statement reads.

The organizers of the performance noted that all tickets would be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days. About 65,000 people were supposed to attend the concerts every day.
