Stephen King undergoes surgery: the writer's right leg gave out

The legendary American writer Stephen King shocked his fans with a confession - his right leg, namely the hip, has completely failed. However, the "King of Horror" has already reassured the public with the news that he underwent hip replacement surgery.

All this is the result of a car accident almost 25 years ago, in which the author of cult novels almost died. King himself told about this on his personal page on X (a social network previously known as Twitter).

"I had a hip replacement surgery. My right hip, which was shattered in an accident in the summer of 1999, finally gave out," the writer said.

As you know, on June 19, 1999, in Lovell, Maine, King was walking through the city. At the same time, a minibus driver, Brian Smith, was driving down the road, but was distracted by his dog, who was allegedly jumping around the cabin, and ran into the writer. As a result of the collision, King flew into a ditch and rolled into a pit. He sustained numerous injuries: nine fractures in his right leg, a cracked spine in eight places, four broken ribs, a punctured lung, and dozens of stitches on his head.

The writer was completely confined to bed for at least two months, and he started writing again only a year later. His recovery was extremely difficult and time-consuming. In the first days after the accident alone, King underwent five surgeries. Years later, he had to lie down on the surgical table again to get the steel pins out of his leg, which prevented the "King of Horror" from bending his knees.

When King was first taken to the hospital after the accident, all the doctors and nurses were surprised that the writer's glasses were not damaged at all. And later, eyewitnesses of the accident said that it was a real miracle that the author survived.

As a reminder, Stephen King has repeatedly expressed his support for Ukraine. He ridiculed the Kremlin's attempts to frighten Ukrainians with an armed offensive and refused to cooperate with Russian media.
