Stepan Bandera was killed 65 years ago: what the revolutionary bequeathed to Ukrainians. The best quotes

Stepan Bandera was killed 65 years ago

Exactly 65 years ago, on October 15, Stepan Bandera, an ideologue and theorist of the Ukrainian nationalist movement of the 20th century, was assassinated. The life of the politician, who became a nightmare for the enemies of our homeland, was cynically taken by Soviet agent Bohdan Stashynskyi, who shot him.

The revolutionary tirelessly defended Ukraine from Russian imperialism and tried to achieve independence for his people. OBOZ.UA decided to recall what Stepan Bandera bequeathed to his compatriots.

The ideologue of the nationalist movement was convinced that Ukraine could achieve freedom only in conditions of constant struggle. During his lifetime, the revolutionary called on citizens to actively fight for their independence, and his views have become an inspiration for the modern generation.

"Competition has become our natural environment, the content of our life is a struggle."

"Without its own state, without liberation, and therefore without the liberation struggle, Ukraine can have neither freedom, nor prosperity, nor any shadow of democracy."

"An independent state can only be achieved by the Ukrainian people through their own struggle and labor."

"Without its own state, Ukraine can have neither freedom, nor prosperity, nor any shadow of democracy."

One of the most important ideas that Stepan Bandera bequeathed to Ukrainians is the understanding that freedom is the most important thing in the life of every person. Citizens of our homeland do not like to be in a constant struggle, but only through it can we defend our integrity and independence.

"Our people always strive for freedom for themselves and want it for other nations. It has fought and is fighting for truth and justice. We want to live in harmony and mutual respect with all peoples of good will. We recognize the same rights for other nations as we fight for ourselves."

"When a people chooses bread over freedom, they eventually lose everything, including bread. If the people choose freedom, they will have bread grown by themselves and not taken away by anyone."

"Our ideal of freedom is the ideal of all free people."

Stepan Bandera fundamentally destroyed the Soviet notion of revolutionism. The politician revealed the true essence of nationalism: to get rid of Russian influence forever and to awaken the "Cossack energy" in every Ukrainian. His beliefs have not lost their relevance even after decades.

"The main part of the struggle of a revolutionary organization against the enemy is the struggle for the human soul, for ideological influence on the whole nation, for spreading the idea and concept of the liberation revolution among the broadest masses of the people, for their enthusiasm for this idea and, through this, for their joining the side of the liberation struggle."

"The ideas of Ukrainian nationalism and the heroic deeds of the revolutionary struggle awaken the energy and highest values of the Cossack descendants, deeply asleep, chained by the Bolsheviks."

"Pure Ukrainian nationalism, untainted by tricks and compromises with evil, will emerge victorious from the difficult but majestic struggle against satanic Bolshevik Moscow. It will win, because it contains the great Truth of the Ukrainian nation, according to God's laws, the life of peoples and people in freedom and justice."

"The revolutionary struggle is a national struggle in the plane of spirituality, culture, a socio-political and military struggle for the complete destruction of the existing state, its content, and for the construction of a completely new, from every perspective better state that meets the needs and desires of the Ukrainian people."
