The Spanish band Nebulossa got into a scandal over the song for Eurovision 2024

Nebulossa from Spain will defend their country's honor at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden this year. The band won the National Selection with the song Zorra and a very provocative performance. The lyrics provoked a loud discussion online. For example, representatives of the Feminist Movement of Madrid noted that the song "insults women in a sexist way."

The fact is that the word Zorra is translated from Spanish as "fox," but more often, including in the contest song by Nebulossa, it is used to mean "whore" or "c*ck." BBC journalists gathered all the details of the scandal.

The translation of the track's chorus is as follows: "If I go out alone, I'm a c*nt / If I'm having fun, I'm the biggest c*nt / When I get what I want, I'm a c*ck, I'm a c*ck / It's never because I deserve it."

According to the authors themselves, the idea of their song is to ridicule misogyny and highlight the problem of double standards towards women, because if a man is called a zorra, it simply means "scoundrel."

"Why should a fox be something good, and a zorra something bad? To be a c*ck means to know what you want," commented Maria Blas and Mark Dasuza, members of the collective.

However, representatives of the Feminist Movement disagree with this interpretation and accuse the musicians of sexism.

Even Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez defended the Spanish representatives at the international competition. He expressed his opinion on the Al Rojo Vivo program on La Sexta TV channel: "I think that feminism is not only fair, it can be fun, and this kind of provocation should come from culture."

Spanish Minister for Equality Irene Montero also did not see a negative context in the song, but instead thought that such provocative lyrics "break stereotypes."

Despite the scandal and loud accusations, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) assured that the song does not contradict its ban on lyrics that could tarnish the contest. The EBU representatives emphasized that it is important to take into account the context and the overall message of the track, so they concluded that "the song is suitable for participation in this year's competition."
