"Some idols stop being idols": Alan Badoev comments on Sofia Rotaru's position and suggests why she is silent

Alan Badoev commented on Sofia Rotaru's position

After the full-scale Russian invasion, many Ukrainians were waiting for the Ukrainian pop legend Sofia Rotaru to condemn the aggressor's actions, but they never did. The singer occasionally appears online with laconic and sometimes wordless reactions to Russian terrorist attacks in Ukrainian cities, but so far her position can be characterized as silent. Alan Badoev, a well-known Ukrainian music video maker and producer who has worked extensively with the People's Artist, suggested why this is the case. He frankly admitted that Rotaru had ceased to be his idol because of her position.

Badoev expressed the opinion that the singer was unable to move into a new era, so mentally she still remains in the past. He shared his thoughts on this in an interview with Dmytro Gordon.

The music video maker noted that he does not condemn Sofia, but her songs, in particular about Ukraine, no longer carry the meaning for him that they once did.

"There will probably be no more statements from her. Some idols cease to be idols. Not because you condemn who I am and what right I have to condemn Sofia Rotaru. But I will not allow myself to be guided by her actions either. And moreover, will I listen to her music with enthusiasm? It has lost some of its magic and power. Because any time we live in shades everything that happens. So Sofia Mikhailovna remained in that era. She did not move into a new era and she will not move into a new era," Badoev commented.

According to the producer, Rotaru is one of those people whose essence is half Russian. Badoev emphasized that he himself had worked for the Russian market and with Russian artists for many years, but after February 24, he changed dramatically and began working for Ukraine's victory. Sofia Mikhailovna, on the other hand, failed to do so.

"There are a lot of people like that. In them, 50% of their very essence is Russia. So you either tear it out by the roots and say, 'I'm here, rely on me, I will do everything in this war for my country. Or you think differently," the music video maker added.
