"So no grandchildren then?": famous Ukrainian hairdresser Mykhailo Prus comes out as gay, showing the reaction of his military father

Mykhailo Prus comes out as gay, showing the reaction of his military father

Celebrity hairdresser Mykhailo Prus, who provided services for Lesya Nikitiuk, Nadia Dorofeeva, Jamala and other celebrities, has come out as gay and shared how his military father reacted to it. He had been hiding his relationship from his family for about 5 years for fear of rejection.

The hairdresser decided to tell his mother first, and then his father, who is currently fighting at the front. Mykhailo Prus told all the details on Anita Solovei's podcast.

"I've been in a relationship for five years. And the only thing I've been lying to my parents about for five years is that I live alone and that I don't have a relationship," Mykhailo Prus admitted and added, "My dad is not in Kyiv right now. He is defending our country. My mom is in Kyiv now. That's why I came to my mom and we are starting."

He noted that at first, his mother did not pay attention to the fact that her son was trying to touch on an important topic for him. She interrupted him time and time again and told him enthusiastically about the training she was attending. Mykhailo Prus began his confession with the news that he had recorded a podcast with Anita Solovey, during which he was to make a coming out. Because of this, he felt it necessary to first inform his parents about his sexual orientation.

"I said, 'You're not going to like this interview.' She's like, 'Just me?' I said, 'Yes, you too'. She said, 'Is that what I think it is?' I said yes. It's like in the movies: we're sitting in the kitchen, she takes out a cigarette and slowly lights it silently. She is silent, silent, and then silent again. Then she says, "So no grandchildren then?" Mykhailo Prus said.

He added that the parents, it turns out, had long suspected their son's sexual orientation but did not dare to ask. They waited for the hairdresser to come out himself.

"They started talking about it five years ago. And they said that I was their child, they didn't deny that I was the same. But it was very difficult. Somehow it was easier to tell my mother than my father because my father is from the countryside. The environment is exactly the same, a completely different upbringing, that is, a completely different environment. I was waiting for my father to write something or call me, and that day he wrote in the evening, 'Misha, mom told me everything, everything is fine, we love you anyway'," he explained his father's reaction.

Later he noted that his mother was still against her only son publicly speaking about this, so he had to persuade her and explain the importance of his confession.

"My mother was against me appearing in this particular interview and publicly declaring my sexual orientation anywhere. But after I explained that a huge number of children lose a good connection with their parents after they come out, that parents do not accept it at all and stop communicating with their children, after that, of course, she realized the importance of this interview," the hairdresser said.
