February 2 marks ten years since the death of the legendary Ukrainian musician, frontman of the band Skryabin, Andriy Kuzmenko. His life was tragically cut short as a result of a car accident near the village of Lozuvatka, Dnipro region.
On the eve of the tragedy, on February 1, Skryabin performed in Kryvyi Rih. It was a sold-out concert, as the band was celebrating its 25th anniversary. The audience included both longtime fans and young people who were just discovering Kuzma's work. As always, he was joking, talking to the audience and sharing his emotions. OBOZ.UA decided to recall what the last day of Kuzma Skryabin's life was like and why his mother did not want to believe that the accident was an accident.

Before the concert, Kuzma made several videos in which he drew attention to the poor state of Ukrainian roads. Even then, he expressed his indignation at the inaction of the authorities in solving this problem. His last words in the video took on a tragic meaning, because the next morning it was the road that became the place of his death.

On February 2, around 8:20 am, Andriy Kuzmenko was returning from Kryvyi Rih to Kyiv. Near the village of Lozuvatka, the car collided with a milk truck. According to the official version, the accident was caused by difficult weather conditions, which caused the musician's car to drive onto the oncoming lane. Kuzma died on the spot.

Andriy's mother, Olha Kuzmenko, did not believe that the accident was an accident until the end of her life. She assumed that her son could have been killed because of his active civic position and criticism of the authorities. She said that Kuzma often received threats, and before his death, his car broke down under strange circumstances. She also believed that a device could have been installed on the car, which blocked the controls at the right time.

Before the moment of death, the car stopped braking and the steering wheel stopped working. However, if the barrel had been properly attached to the milk truck, it would not have killed Skryabin, and he would have survived, as Olha Kuzmenko believes.
In addition, according to her, in 2014, Kuzma almost died because of a faulty wheel that fell off while driving. Then, according to her, he was saved only by a lucky break.

"At the end of 2014, he came to me very upset and said: "Ma, you know, the guys changed my tires, they always changed the same ones, I always pay them so well, and they screwed the tires on badly. After Mykolaiv, my wheel bounced off. And it was good that the car flew into a pile of snow. But it was 100 meters from a concrete bus stop," Olha Kuzmenko recalled.
