Singer who became famous on Ukrainian shows won The Voice of Lithuania: he fell to his knees, cried and thanked for supporting Ukraine
On Sunday, April 30, the Voice singing competition ended in Lithuania with the victory of Nigerian-born singer Anyanya Udongwo, who had been building his career and studying in Ukraine until February 24, 2022. He has participated in The X Factor and The Voice of the Country shows and collaborated with famous Ukrainian stars.
In Lithuania, the vocalist's talent was appreciated, although he was very surprised to win. Upon hearing the decision, Anyanya Udongwo burst into tears and fell to his knees. He also thanked the audience and the judges for their support of Ukraine. The words of the artist were reported by the local website 15 min (to see the photo, scroll to the bottom of the page).
The winner of the show calls Ukraine his home, as he has lived and worked here for about 10 years. He studied medicine for six years in Odesa, after which he worked as a surgeon for two more years.
The singer discovered his talent for singing in Ukraine, so he went to try his hand at The X Factor. The judges liked the Nigerian's voice, but he did not achieve popularity at the time.
A few years later, he was more successful on the Voice project, where his performance of Hallelujah impressed two coaches at once. Under Svyatoslav Vakarchuk's guidance, the artist discovered himself, but did not win.
However, his talent was noticed by Ukrainian stars - the TVORCHI duo, who will represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest this year, and singer Dmytro Monatik. The celebrities invited Anyanya Udongwo to sing backing vocals.
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine forced the Nigerian and his family to move, but he continued to draw attention to Russian terrorism abroad.
"I am very grateful to the Lithuanians for their support and for the warmth with which they welcomed me. I confess that your support has touched not only me but also my family. I thank God and my family. And, of course, I thank the people of Lithuania for their support - not only mine, but that of the whole of Ukraine. We will win," said the artist after the victory.
His young son appeared on the red carpet with a Ukrainian flag. Anyanya Udogwo won 15 thousand euros (600 thousand UAH) and a contract with Universal Music Group.
