Serhiy Zhadan reveals what surprised him about 94-year-old Lina Kostenko after rare interview

Ukrainian writer and performer Serhiy Zhadan shared his impressions of the legendary poet Lina Kostenko, who agreed to give an interview, although for many years the Shevchenko Prize winner has refused to do so. According to the leader of the band Zhadan i Sobaky (Zhadan and Dogs), the 94-year-old cultural activist has a very sharp mind, and the most surprising thing he learned is that she reads his works.

The public figure said this on the Bombardyr (@RomanBebekh) YouTube channel. Zhadan noted that the writer agreed to give the interview because she respects him, as well as the entire 13th Khartiia Brigade, which the artist joined.

"She reads everything, follows everything, and it's amazing. We were talking about my Arabesky (Arabesques, his book - ed.). It was unexpected. I didn't know that she had read and analyzed them. It was an interesting thing to hear from her," the staff sergeant said.

In addition, Serhiy Zhadan noted that the meeting with Lina Kostenko was spontaneous. The writer is a very intelligent and multifaceted person, so their conversation turned out to be quite interesting.

"Lina has a very sharp mind and an incredible sense of self-irony and irony in general. She has an incredibly clear memory. She recalled and told us a lot of interesting things," said the leader of Zhadan and Dogs.

The singer met with the cultural figure in her apartment and discussed many interesting topics related to literature and war.
