Scandals surrounding Israel at Eurovision 2024: the first requirements of the European broadcaster have become known

EBU checks Israel's entry

This year, Eden Golan, the Israeli participant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, faced several problems at once. Some countries have declared a boycott of the contestant in connection with the war against Hamas, and Ukrainians are not happy with her because of her performance in occupied Crimea and her long life in Russia. Although the European broadcaster has ignored the disqualification requests, the first demands have already been made.

Thus, the song of the Israeli representative has not yet been selected due to additional checks, the Ynet website writes. Moreover, the track may not be allowed to participate if it contains political overtones.

The song was announced in Hebrew and was supposed to be presented, but was postponed due to a request to make sure that the song did not contain any mention of the war.

The check was not supposedly aimed at discrediting the participant, but was caused by the broadcaster's caution, but it delayed the preparation.

Now Israel is choosing between two songs that the winner of the National Selection, Eden Golan, can perform in Malmö, Sweden. The commission will meet at the end of the week to listen to them live.

"The professional song selection procedure has not yet been completed. The professional committee is debating between the two final songs. After hearing them performed by Eden Golan, the decision will be made. The committee is due to meet on Saturday, and if the EBU's approval of the lyrics of the two songs is received by then, the decision can be made then," the article says.

Although many countries opposed the contestant's participation this year, the EBU said it rejected their requests and did not compare Russia to Israel.

As you know, the Israeli contestant has Ukrainian roots on her mother's side, but has lived in Moscow almost all her life. Eden Golan has a pro-Ukrainian grandfather, but she herself performed in the occupied Crimea as a child.
