Rock Paper Scissors star Rudynskyi reveals what actors asked him about Ukraine war the most after BAFTA win
Oleksandr Rudynskyi, a 28-year-old actor who played the lead role in the film Rock Paper Scissors, which won Best Shot Film nomination at prestigious BAFTAs 2025, revealed what world stars ask about Ukraine. According to the celebrity, during his stay at the gala event, many were interested in his homeland, but he was most impressed by the concern of English actress Kate Winslet.
According to the Ukrainian, she personally approached him and admitted that she was touched by what is happening in our country. He said this in an interview with TSN.
"Everyone asks about Ukraine, of course, during all interview. They ask whether it is political or non-political; how life in Kyiv has changed now, is it safe or dangerous. Kate Winslet personally came up to me and shared that she was very much touched by what is happening in Ukraine. It was very sincere of her. This person really cares about what is happening in my country," the actor said.
It is worth noting that Kate Winslet first expressed her support for Ukraine in the fall of 2024. For a long time, the star has been struggling with the image of a "perfect woman," so she is not shy about looking imperfect in the frame or showing her real body. However, when she was called courageous for that during an interview, the celebrity admitted that she was annoyed by this opinion.
"That’s not f---ing brave. I’m not an ex-postmaster fighting for justice, I’m not in Ukraine. I’m doing a job that matters to me," the artist said.
As a reminder, the BAFTA 2025 awards ceremony took place in London on February 16. The film Rock Paper Scissors, Rock, directed by Franz Böhm and telling the story of the bloody war in Ukraine, won the Best British Short Film nomination. Oleksandr Rudynskyi, who played the lead role in the film, attended the event. The Ukrainian delivered a touching a speech in front of world celebrities, which he dedicated to his friend who gave his life defending his homeland.
"I'm gonna dedicate this award to my friend Zhenya Svitlychnyi, who died in the war 5 days before we started shooting. And also to all those who defend and make my country independent. Thank you so much, BAFTA, and Slava Ukraini! (Glory to Ukraine - ed.)," the actor said on stage.
