Raspberries frontman and author of the hit All by Myself Eric Carmen has died

Raspberries' lead singer Eric Carmen died on March 11 at the age of 74. The singer and guitarist is best known for his solo career and hits All by Myself, Hungry Eyes, and Never Gonna Fall in Love Again.

Carmen passed away in his sleep, the artist's wife wrote on his official website. She did not disclose the cause of death.

"It is with great sadness that we share the sad news of the passing of Eric Carmen. Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep over the weekend. He was very happy to know that his music has touched so many over the decades and will remain his lasting legacy. Please respect the family's privacy as we mourn our tremendous loss," Amy Carmen wrote.

The singer has loved music since childhood. From the age of six, he learned to play musical instruments, the first of which was the violin. Carmen's specialty was his high tenor voice, which made him one of the most unique singers in the history of pop music.

In the late 1960s, Eric Carmen, Wally Bryson, Jim Bonfanti, and Dave Smalley formed the Raspberries, a rock and roll band that in the early 70s was recognized as one of the most important representatives of power pop. Their biggest hits were Go all the way and Let's pretend. After the band's breakup, Carmen was already performing as a solo singer, and then he began to create hit ballads: Never gonna fall in love again, She did it, Hungry eyes, Make me lose control, and All by myself, the latter of which hit the charts around the world and became classics.

His active music career lasted until 1998, his next track, I was born to love you, recorded in the same year, was released two years later, and after that, a thirteen-year stagnation began. It was only in 2013 that he released the song Brand new year for free listening as a "Christmas present" in anticipation of a 30-track retrospective called The Essential Eric Carmen.
