Rapper P. Diddy arrested in New York hotel: what he is accused of
Federal agents of the Department of Homeland Security arrested rapper Sean Combs, known as P. Diddy, at the Park Hyatt Hotel in New York, USA, on Monday evening, September 16 following official charges. The detention took place amid lawsuits concerning sexual assault.
Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, explained that the detention was "based on a sealed indictment," so details cannot be disclosed yet. This event was reported by ABC News.
"Earlier this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY (Southern District of New York - Ed.). We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time," the prosecutor said.
The rapper's lawyer Marc Agnifilo called the arrest an "unjust prosecution." "We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Sean "Diddy" Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community," the lawyer, who tried to manipulate federal agents over the detention of a black man, said in a statement.
He added that the rapper is innocent of anything and has "nothing to hide." "He looks forward to clearing his name in court," Agnifilo said.
It is known that Sean Combs has been under investigation for more than a year after his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed sexual assault charges. In May of this year, a video dated 2016 surfaced on the Internet, in which the rapper allegedly mocks a woman who looks like his ex. The video shows a man running out of a hotel room in a towel as fast as he can to the elevator to stop her, while she tries to escape from her attacker. Catching up with her, the rapper throws his partner to the floor and starts kicking her.
Also, adult film actor Adria English claimed that the rapper not only sexually assaulted her but also trafficked her body for years. Following these allegations, at least 10 additional lawsuits were filed, which Combs denies.
After that, his homes in Los Angeles and Miami were searched and he was later forced to move to New York.
