Prykhodko explains why famous artists do not participate in the National Selection for Eurovision and announces a necessary change in the rules
Ukrainian singer Anastasiia Prykhodko, who represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, has revealed why, in her opinion, leading artists refuse to participate in the National Selection in Ukraine, while young performers compete for the opportunity to represent their country on the international stage. She believes that the problem is in the rules of the song contest, so it is necessary to change its format.
It is about the way of voting for a favorite, namely the part where judges cast their votes for the best artist. As Prykhodko said in her interview with "33 Questions," she would not like her colleagues to judge her song and performance.
According to the artist, if the part related to the judges is removed and the entire choice of the candidate is put on the shoulders of the audience, this is how the competition can be "saved." Moreover, under such conditions, she is also ready to take part in it.
"It doesn't work. It worked once, it worked twice, and it doesn't work anymore. Second, I think we need to change the format of the National Selection a little bit. I understand why artists who have experience prefer not to go there. Because, for example, I have a dream to represent my homeland at this song contest. But I can't afford to have my colleagues judge me," said Anastasiia Prykhodko.
She explained that the National Eurovision Song Contest can only be saved by a complete rejection of artist judges. Therefore, only the audience should be responsible for the right to choose.
"We don't need judges. People should vote. If you remove all this judging when your colleagues perceive you as a competition... But the same artist could achieve twice as much as the one in the jury. And this moment is a turning point for artists who could get high. I think it's just necessary to remove this part from the National Selection, and then there will be an influx again, and it will be interesting to watch these competitions," the artist added.
