Prince William showed never-before-seen photos of Diana's mother: they have been kept in the family archive for decades
The British Prince William showed his archival childhood photos with his mother, Princess Diana, which he had never shown publicly before. At the time of the shooting, the Prince of Wales was almost 11 years old, and at that time he visited a homeless shelter for the first time and learned that there are people who do not have homes.
He included these photos in the promo for his documentary "Prince William: We Can End Homelessness" about helping homeless people in England. Back in June 1993, the eldest son of King Charles III, along with his brother Harry and mother Diana, visited The Passage, a charity organization that helps the homeless. The trailer was published on YouTube.
That was the first time he learned about the problem of homelessness, as Lady Dee tried to teach her sons to be tolerant of such people from an early age. At the time, Prince William was almost 11 years old and Harry was 8.
In the documentary, he recalled that what he saw in the organization did not match his expectations. Prince William believed that all homeless people were sad because they did not have their own homes, but the reality was quite different.
"My mom was doing everything she always does: calming everyone down, laughing and joking with everyone. I remember thinking at the time: "Well, if everyone doesn't have a home, they're all going to be very sad." But it was incredible how happy that environment was. I remember having good conversations, playing chess, socializing, and it was then that it dawned on me that there are other people who don't have the same life as you. You know, when you're very young, you just think that life is what you see in front of you, and you don't even realize that you can look somewhere else," the Prince of Wales admitted.
The archival footage captures the same moments described by Prince William: playing chess, and talking to the organization's employees and visitors. Such "travels" with Lady Dee influenced the worldview of the heir to the throne and the upbringing of his children. The Prince of Wales often patronizes the poor, meets with charitable organizations, and admits that he talks about homelessness and other social phenomena to his descendants.
