Playing along with the Kremlin's propaganda: Russian actor Yuri Borisov has been nominated for the American Gotham Awards 2024

Russian actor Yuri Borisov was nominated for the American Gotham Awards 2024

Yuri Borisov, a Russian actor who does not shy away from playing propagandists in movies, has been nominated for the Gotham Awards 2024. He will be competing for the Best Supporting Actor award for his film Anora, which shows the life of influential Russians in the West, according to the classic.

Interestingly, this film won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Savannah Film Festival's Breakthrough Award, and now it will compete for Best Picture at the Gotham Awards 2024. The list of nominees was published by Deadline.

Together with the Russian, they are competing for the Best Supporting Actor nomination:

  • Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain),
  • Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson),
  • Brigette Lundy-Payne (I Saw the TV Glow),
  • Natasha Lyonne (His Three Daughters),
  • Clarence McLean (Sing, Sing),
  • Katy O'Brien (Love Lies Bleeding),
  • Guy Pearce (The Brutalist),
  • Adam Pearson (A Different Man),
  • Brian Tyree Henry (The Fire Inside).

In total, Anora received four Gotham 2024 nominations. Among them: "Best Picture, Best Director, Outstanding Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actor. In addition to Borisov, several other Russians took part in the filming of Anora: 22-year-old Mark Eidelstein, 40-year-old Daria Yekamasova, and 60-year-old Alexei Serebryakov.

The Russian actor is trying to join the Hollywood "party" by starring in their films and meeting with celebrities. For example, in September, he talked to Angelina Jolie, who openly supports Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Jolie, who was presenting her new film Maria at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), was spotted standing next to Borisov. The two were having a nice conversation and smiling at each other.

In 2020, Yuriy Borisov played the lead role in the biopic Kalashnikov. At the time, the actor admitted that he did not pay attention to whether the film he was playing in was propaganda. It is more important for the actor to make his character interesting.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Laima Vaikule once again tried to "reach out" to the Russians. She told them what awaits them in the future if the Russian terrorist invasion continues. But her attempts were again in vain - she was sharply scolded by Putinists.
