Petro Velykyy died in the Kursk direction

Details of the death of the actor of the Chernihiv Shevchenko Drama Theater and soldier Petro Velykyy have emerged. He was serving in the Kursk direction, where his life ended.

The family was informed of the death of the 48-year-old actor the day before, on November 19 in the evening. The theater's general director Serhiy Moisienko told Suspilne.

"Employees of the Territorial Center of Recruitment came to the theater and handed the victim's daughter, Kateryna, who also works as an actress with us, a 'funeral'. We don't know any more details, the family hasn't come to yet. However, according to his comrades-in-arms, who are also our actors fighting alongside Petro, he was killed on November 15 in the Kursk sector," he said.

As Serhiy Moisienko notes, Petro Velykyy was a talented man and devoted to his acting work. Before Russia's full-scale invasion, he was nominated for the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine, but this was never realized.

"Leading master of the stage. The golden fund of the theater. A very tactful, very polite person... He took on any role. He came to work even with a high fever. He was very devoted to his profession," added the director general.

The actor has been working at the Chernihiv Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater named after Taras Shevchenko since 2004, and has played more than 35 roles, including Petro in the play Earth, Perelesnyk in The Forest Song, Holokhvosty in Chasing Two Hares, and Karpo in The Kaydashev Family.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Petro Velykyy's death was reported online by his daughter, actress Catherine. The girl published the last correspondence with her father and signed her post as follows: "Message from my dad. I love you forever. You have always been, are and will be my best friend."
