People's Artist of the USSR Yury Solomin died: how he lied about Ukraine and the war

The actor Yury Solomin, who had also been the artistic director of the Maly (Small) Theater since 1988, dies in Russia. In November 2023, the People's Artist of the USSR was hospitalized with a stroke.

The actor, who was a fan of the Putin regime and shared the Kremlin's imperialist narratives, was 88 years old. His death was reported by propaganda media.

Back in 2014, after Russia's annexation of Crimea, Solomin expressed his Ukrainophobic views. In particular, he cynically argued that the occupied peninsula belonged to the Russian Federation "according to historical laws" and that Kharkiv "is a Russian city."

"I don't understand. Kharkiv used to be Russian and was even considered the capital of Russia, so now it is ours. There are just more Russians there. But no one is saying to give us Kharkiv back," as a Putinist said in 2015.

In addition, Solomin allowed himself to blatantly lie about Ukraine, promoting standard propaganda narratives to the masses.

Even after the full-scale invasion, in March 2023, the actor lied, "I am very worried, seeing what ugliness and outrage the Ukrainian leadership is creating... I am horrified that Kyiv is leaving defenseless elderly people to fight, many of whom surrender."

Solomin also told stories about how "16-year-olds are caught in Ukraine on the streets and taken to the army," and always cynically added how he was "worried" about the fate of our country.

As previously reported, in October 2023, propagandist Stanislav Andreev (Uncle Slava), who liked to mock Ukrainians in "chat roulettes" and TikTok broadcasts, died. He also ran a blog where he had more than half a million similarly pro-Russian haters of Ukraine and the West.
