Recall that the actors have been in talks with movie companies for a month regarding pay raises and guarantees that they will not be replaced by artificial intelligence. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), an organization representing the big studios and streamers - Amazon, Apple, Disney, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Sony and Warner Bros. Discovery - could not come to an agreement with the Guild, so the actors went on strike.
It's a historic moment, as actors are boycotting the movie industry for the first time in 63 years. SAG-AFTRA has recommended that the strike members refrain from tours, personal appearances, premieres, interviews, filming, festivals, social media, meeting fans and participating in shows. In other words, the public activities of the stars, including world-famous actors, will be effectively halted.
