Oscar nominee Theodore Ushev refused to accept an award at the Moscow Film Festival because of Russian aggression: war kills your art

Renowned Bulgarian director and animator and Oscar nominee Theodore Ushev turned down an award at the Moscow Film Festival. He was awarded the statuette for his film "Phi 1.618". The filmmaker recorded a video appeal in which he explained that his behavior was a kind of protest against the bloody and destructive war in Ukraine.
Ushev condemned the dictatorial regime - the regime of terror. And he assured that each new Russian missile fired at peaceful Ukrainian cities kills the culture of Russia, which until recently was considered "great" throughout the world. This was reported by the Bulgarian News Service.
In his speech, Ushev assured that he used to love and admire Russian culture, but the murderous war changed everything. It was Russian aggression, not Russophobia, as all Z-patriots without exception think, that killed the culture of their own country.
"Your culture was Russia's most powerful weapon. We read your literature with gusto, watched your stirring films. And then all of a sudden it was gone. I have to say this because my film raises the very subject of the destruction of culture, art, love, humanism. Their destruction by totalitarianism, by dictatorship. The war is destroying Russian culture. Every missile you fire burns one Russian book. Each bomb you fire explodes one poem, destroys one movie. With every innocent child or woman killed, you kill one writer, artist, director. War kills your art!" - pronounced the director.
However, at the film festival, whose organizers asked Ushev to record the appeal because he is not in Russia, the video of the director was not shown. Instead, from the stage they said that the filmmakers could not attend the ceremony and the award would be given to them later.
As OBOZREVATEL wrote, earlier at the Moscow Film Festival the actress from Mariupol and wife of Ukrainian musician Anton Savlepov showed up. This sparked rumors that the artist and the singer may have divorced amid disagreements over the war. A member of Quest Pistols commented on the situation.
