Opera singer Maria Maksakova faces up to 6 years in prison in Russia: Russian media named the reason
A Russian opera singer, former State Duma deputy from the United Russia party, Maria Maksakova, who has been living in Ukraine since 2016 and openly criticizes dictator Vladimir Putin, has been criminally prosecuted in Russia. The artist faces up to 6 years in prison because of an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel "Now".
In a conversation with journalists Maksakova called on citizens of the Russian Federation to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The performer also condemned the Russian occupiers who unleashed a bloody war against the Ukrainian people. According to propagandists, the case against the singer has been opened under the article "Public calls to carry out activities against the security of the state".
Maksakova was recently fined in Russia for not labeling a so-called "foreign agent". The star is forced to pay 40 thousand rubles. The reason for initiating an administrative case were the clips posted by the celebrity on YouTube, in which she does not mark that she has the status of a so-called "foreign agent". Previously, the Presnensky Court of the Russian Federation issued the performer a fine of 30 thousand rubles for a similar offense.
