In 2017, American actor Kevin Spacey, best known for the TV series House of Cards and the movie Payback, was involved in court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment. As a result, the star almost lost his career and was on the verge of bankruptcy.

Although the court found him not guilty and dismissed the subsequent lawsuit, the notoriety stigmatized the actor, and his colleagues Sharon Stone, Stephen Fry and Liam Neeson have to almost beg for permission to keep him on board, the BBC reports. On the 65th birthday of the two-time Oscar winner, OBOZ.UA decided to recall his most notorious scandal, which de facto destroyed his life.

In October 2017, actor Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of harassment. This happened against the backdrop of the star's careful concealment of any information about his personal life and the absence of public relationships with women.

Anthony Rapp recalled the events that allegedly took place in 1986, when he was 14 years old and Kevin Spacey was 26. He spoke about the incident in public, to which the Payback actor said he did not remember the situation, but apologized if the event did occur.

Over time, 15 more people decided to accuse Kevin Spacey of sexual harassment in the wake of the hate. Among them was actor Andy Holtzman. According to him, the incident occurred in 1981 when he was working at a theater festival in New York. He was 27 years old at the time. Holtzman decided not to report the incident to the police because he was afraid of being fired.

The list of these 15 people also includes 8 actors from House of Cards. Spacey lost the lead role of a devious politician in the series. It was claimed that he allegedly made rude comments and touched young employees without their consent. The studio not only fired the actor, but also ordered him to pay $31 million and reimburse the costs of filming the series, as the team had already started working on the next season.

This event hit the actor hard because of the exorbitant amount. The American Film Academy also canceled the Emmy Awards, and Netflix refused to continue working with Spacey. As a result, he has only appeared in 7 films in the last 8 years, and in June 2024, he announced that he was on the verge of bankruptcy.

On his birthday, July 26, 2023, the court found Kevin Spacey not guilty. The star was acquitted of nine charges: sexual assault, incitement to non-consensual sexual activity, and incitement to sexual intercourse with penetration. After the jury's decision, the actor could not hold back his tears. He pleaded not guilty to any of the charges.

In June of this year, the star told journalist Piers Morgan that he was on the verge of bankruptcy after his home in Baltimore, USA, was put up for auction.

"My house is being auctioned off. So I have to go back to Baltimore and put all my stuff in storage. So the answer to that question is that I'm not quite sure where I'm going to live now, but I've been in Baltimore since we started filming House of Cards there," Spacey admitted.

In particular, he added that, in addition to court debts, he also owes money to utility companies, and he can't pay the bills because the house is completely locked. Just the mention of this brought the star to tears.
