On an island in the middle of the lake. Charles Spencer's wife showed the burial place of Princess Diana
Karen Spencer, the wife of Charles Spencer, the younger brother of Princess Diana, showed what the Oval Lake, where the royal is buried, looks like. The woman regularly publishes photos of the Elthrop estate, which has belonged to the family for over 500 years.
Earl Spencer decided that his sister would be buried near the house where they grew up together. Karen posted a photo of the lake in the middle of which Lady Dee is buried on her Instagram page, Hello Magazine reports.
It is reported that it was originally planned to bury Diana in the family crypt in a local church.
But because of the security and privacy aspect, Charles decided that the best place would be an island in the center of Lake Oval, hidden from everyone, after the press attacks on the princess's family about the tragedy.
This made it possible to make the grave private and accessible only to close family members. Although members of the public can visit the estate when it is open during the summer months, they do not have access to the island. The only way to get there is by boat.
In Prince Harry's book, he described his and Meghan Markle's visit to Elthrop to pay their respects to their late mother. However, things didn't go as planned as the small boat apparently got stuck in the mud. Luckily, Diana's brother was on hand to give the couple a "little push" and help them reach the shore in the center of the lake.
Harry made another frank statement in his book: he would have liked to be buried next to his mother on an island in the middle of the lake, but this is not possible. Instead, the prince asked to have his body buried at Frogmore House, where he celebrated his wedding to Meghan.
