Today, on October 29, Ukrainian actor Oleksii Horbunov celebrates his 63rd birthday. The Kyivan's talent has been documented in hundreds of films, many of which were also part of Russian cinema. However, after the outbreak of the war in Donbas in 2014, the Ukrainian left his successful career in Russia, refusing to sign contracts.

In 2024, Horbunov spoke in the studio of the Fontan Podcast about how he made the decision to leave Russia. According to the actor, he left Russian screens, where he was used to being seen in leading roles. Instead, he joined the band "Pilot's Sadness." Back then, the musicians performed for Ukrainian soldiers who had suffered as a result of the fighting.

"Here we can really see the guys, Ilovaysk. What is the Kharkiv hospital, the guys who were the first to volunteer. What is Dnipro, Mechnikova," the actor recalls. Back then, when Moscow agents called, Horbunov assured them that they had no idea what was happening at the front. "When I met these guys after the hospital, when I saw the young ones with no arms, no legs," the star continued, "we know all the cyborgs, we talked to them all, starting from the hospitals.

Former colleagues told Horbunov that he would not be as successful in Kyiv as he was in Moscow, but the Ukrainian saw a "different picture." "What saved me at that time was the fact that the band was called 'Pilot's Sadness'. We took our guitars and just stupidly started visiting the guys in the Armed Forces and hospitals. That was it," Horbunov said.

In February 2024, in an interview with Nashe Vremya, the actor admitted how he was experiencing a full-scale war in Ukraine. At the time, he compared the situation in his homeland to a broken heart. "Well, how do all people experience a broken heart? Devastation, grief, loss," the star explained. "As a normal person, you can't take it calmly, and it doesn't matter where you are - abroad, in Kyiv, or Odesa, or Lviv, or Kharkiv. It's a pain that is with you all the time."

Currently, the artist continues to tour with the band, including concerts abroad. Horbunov can also be seen on the stage of the theater and in videos by Ukrainian bloggers of Optimus Gang. The actor shares moments from his life on his Instagram page, where it is noticeable that the celebrity often visits Warsaw.
