National Selection finalist FIЇNKA responds to plagiarism accusations and suggests who can be behind them
Ukrainian singer Iryna Vykhovanets, one of the Eurovision 2025 National Selection finalists, better known by her stage name Fiїnka, responded to accusations of plagiarizing the Spanish-language song Con Altura. She suggested that her competitors were trying to set her up.
In an interview with Suspilne Kultura, the artist said that at first she laughed at the information that appeared online. According to Iryna, she believed that people would make memes of the song with which she wanted to represent Ukraine.
"Apparently, one of the competitors latched on to some good news story and started screaming with capslock: 100% MATCH, JUST A COPY. People picked it up without even listening to the song. But I have to thank Tina Karol (as all my excuses would have sounded ridiculous) because people who wanted to hate were just waiting for a reason to do so," she commented. "She said: there are no resemblances, everything has been checked."
Regarding the 2019 song by Spanish artist Rosalía Con Altura, with which Fiїnka's "Kultura" has been compared, Vykhovanets said that they have completely different contexts.
"You can see my song is called Kultura (Culture), not Con Altura (Up High in Spanish)," she explained. "Tina Karol has dotted the i's and crossed the t's, so everything is fine, the topic can be considered over."
