"My whole body was on fire". Harrison Ford, Kanye West and other stars who survived disasters

Some stars know what a real miracle is, because they have been in situations where there was almost no chance of survival. Airplane crashes, earthquakes, fires, explosions... These events could have been the last in their lives, but fate decreed otherwise. For example, in January 2025, American actress Meryl Streep escaped during the deadly Los Angeles wildfires. When she tried to leave the house, a large tree fell on her driveway, blocking the only way out. The celebrity was not at a loss: she took a pair of wire cutters and cut a car-sized hole in the fence. She managed to evacuate safely through it.

1. Sharon Stone

American actress Sharon Stone almost died while vacationing at her parents' house. She told about it in Brett Goldstein's podcast Films To Be Buried. According to the star, she was struck by a "really strong" lightning: "We had our own well... I was drawing water for the iron: one hand was on the tap and the other on the iron. Suddenly, lightning struck the well. It went through the water, and I was thrown across the kitchen. I hit the refrigerator."

Stone then fainted, and her mother took her to the hospital. "An electrocardiogram showed electricity in my body. The doctors did ECGs for ten days to make sure my heart was normal... I was thinking about what would threaten my life next. It would probably be something dramatic and crazy," the actress added.

2. Travis Barker

Travis Barker, an American musician known as the drummer of the Californian punk rock band Blink 182, survived a plane crash in 2008 that killed four people (the pilot, two of the musician's bodyguards, and his assistant). After the accident, he suffered second- and third-degree burns, and four months later (after 27 surgeries) he returned to the studio to continue his work. "I looked death in the face... The plane was on fire, and my hands were burning. I unbuckled my seat belt and tried to get out. In fact, my whole body was on fire. I was soaked in jet fuel," Barker shared his memories in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Nowadays, the musician doesn't tour as much as he would like because he is afraid to fly after the plane crash. "This is my obstacle. I'm working on it. The doctor is trying to retrain me, to hypnotize my brain... Maybe someday I will be able to fly again," he said.

3. Rachel Bilson

American actress Rachel Bilson got into a car accident at the beginning of her movie career. So, she and her friends were driving along the Pacific Coast Highway (California)... At some point, her car crashed into a truck. Fortunately, all the passengers survived, but the star still feels the consequences of the accident. "We were driving very fast, so we had a head-on collision with a truck. We were in a small car. It was a terrible accident... We had to be cut out (it means cutting the car to get the passengers out - Ed.), and I was in a coma for several days. Now I suffer from migraines and memory problems," she told the Mirror.

4. Kanye West

In 2002, the American producer Kanye West miraculously escaped death when he fell asleep at the wheel of a car and crashed into an oncoming car at speed. Shortly after the accident, doctors performed extensive reconstructive surgery on his face.

Even before the treatment was completed, when his lower jaw was blocked, West managed to record his debut single Through the Wire, in which he sang in detail about how the accident affected his life. That was the official start of his rapping career. "Before the accident, I was working on Beanie Siegel and Black Eyed Peas projects... Their hip-hop tracks weren't my best work. So if I had died that night, that would have been the end of my legacy. Now, when I go to the studio, I act like it could be my last day," West shared his thoughts in an interview with USA Today.

5. Harrison Ford

American actor Harrison Ford has been involved in several fatal airplane accidents. The first time it happened in 1999: he got away with minor injuries during an emergency landing.

In 2015, he was less fortunate... Ford was at the helm of a collectible Ryan PT-22 Recrui aircraft from World War II. Suddenly, the engine failed, and the plane crashed on a golf course in Los Angeles. As a result, the actor suffered serious injuries: a sprained ankle, a crushed pelvis, a broken back and multiple head injuries. He could have died on the spot, but fortunately, he was saved by doctors who were nearby. They provided first aid before the ambulance arrived.
