"Mockery of the dead Ukrainians will not be forgiven": Iryna Farion's daughter reacts to Kvartal 95's joke about her mother

Sofia Semchyshyn, the daughter of activist Iryna Farion, who was killed on July 19, reacted to a bad joke by Kvartal 95. In it, a Russian-speaking Ukrainian woman is exorcised by "getting rid of everything Katsap from her stupid head" with a portrait of the deceased.

She is convinced that this is a mockery of the memory of a person who made a significant contribution to Ukrainian identity. The woman posted a picture from this episode on Instagram and quoted the words of the soldier Petro Kuzyk.

"Kvartal 95, you are just animals! You deserve neither respect nor human treatment! Irina Farion was killed for the Ukrainian language, for the Ukrainian position! You will not be forgiven for mocking the dead Ukrainians! I'm waiting for more reactions!" Semchyshyn responded.

In particular, on InstaStories, she showed a screenshot from the correspondence, where it was explained that this "joke" was made last year during the New Year's episode. It was also noted that at the beginning of the three-hour show, "she was dressed up as if she was controlling the purity of the language."

It is worth noting that at the time of writing, the scandalous episode of the New Year's Kvartal has already been removed from the YouTube platform.

However, 1+1 TV channel responded to the outrage and apologized: "Ms. Sofia, we apologize to you and everyone who was offended by the inappropriate joke. The issue that came out on December 29 is one of the older issues. Unfortunately, a mistake was made and a joke that was not supposed to be aired remained in the program. Making jokes about a person who has tragically died is absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances, even if it is an old episode. Thorough checks of archival materials will be carried out, and measures will be taken to prevent similar situations."

In the comments under the indignation of Andrii Ilyenko, an officer of the Svoboda battalion of the 4th Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, Ukrainians once again scolded Kvartal 95:

• "Studio 'Kvartal 95', you are very funny and funny, but your 'joke' about the murdered fearless and defenseless woman Irina Farion is disgusting. Please apologize to her daughter Sofia, the widow of a soldier, and remove this disgusting thing."

• "If I were my daughter, I would sue. These giggles need to be dispersed. This entertainment is unacceptable at a time when Ukrainians are dying in the trenches."
• "In general, shows of this format should not exist in the country during the war. And let those degenerates from Kvartal make jokes on their own families!"

Ukrainians also recalled another "joke" about Iryna Farion. In the video, which was also removed from YouTube, the phrase "If Arestovych and Farion were together, this would be their daughter" was used in the context of the TikTok trend, where people perform strange actions live to receive gifts from viewers.
