Miss Universe 2023 organizers apologized for a gross error during the announcement of the winners: what happened

The organizers of the prestigious Miss Universe beauty pageant, which was held in El Salvador this year, apologized for an unfortunate mistake on the day the results were announced. In a hurry, the official account of the event posted a false photo of the contestants who were supposedly in the top 5.

Later, it turned out that one of the contestants had been knocked out before this stage, so the post confused the fans. Although it was deleted almost immediately, the incident still caused some resonance, so the organizers apologized on Instagram.

The photo that caused the scandal showed the five finalists of Miss Universe included Filipina Michelle Dee, while Miss Thailand Anntonia Porsild who took second place, absent.

The actual top 5 list looked like this: Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaragua, Moray Wilson from Australia, Michelle Dee from Thailand, Camila Avella from Colombia, and Carla Guilfoyle from Puerto Rico.

"We made a mistake! Being in a hurry to publish our posts during Saturday's live broadcast, we accidentally mixed up the names of two finalists. It was a simple mistake as we heard the same results live as you! We apologize to both finalists," the contest organizers wrote.

However, even the official apology did not convince some fans. The contest was criticized for confusing the two countries.

"It's not a mistake. Philippines and Thailand cannot be confused. Even the photos of the candidates cannot be considered a 'mistake', 'Did it take you 5 days? You made a mistake by choosing the wrong nation. Filipinos will eat you alive', and 'It's not a mistake. It's called 'magic'. I hope this will never happen again," the comments read.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Ukraine was represented by Anhelina Usanova. She is a Kyiv-based singer, model and volunteer. As you know, the competition was not without scandals. At the welcome party in El Salvador, Anhelina sat at the same table as a Russian woman. The organizers were allegedly trying to create the illusion of "friendship" between contestants from warring countries once again.
