Men can do it, but women can't? In Brazil, a famous model was imprisoned for exposing her breasts on the beach

Brazilian model outraged by detention

Brazilian model Caroline Werner, 37, accused law enforcement officials of violating her rights by detaining her and forcing her to dress. The Brazilian woman took off her shirt while walking her dogs on the beach, but she could not go long in this form.

The woman is outraged because men in her country are not convicted for walking around with a bare torso on the street, while women are not allowed to bare their breasts. The details of the incident were reported by the Daily Mail.

Caroline Werner criticized officials that although Brazilian law provides for gender equality, in practice women are not allowed to do what men can do.

"Unfortunately, in my country, despite the fact that the constitution guarantees gender equality, this does not happen in practice. When I was walking down the street, I was approached by municipal security officers, and it was completely arbitrary and disproportionate," Werner told a Brazilian channel.

The businesswoman, who owns a bikini brand, claims that the police spoke to her rudely, twisted her arms behind her back, forced her to cover her breasts, and chained her to the bars of her prison cell for an hour. The detainee was allegedly not allowed to call her family and lawyer.

The woman was later released, but received a summons to appear in court for "indecent behavior." Allegedly, the Brazilian constitution does not specify which acts fall under this law.

Werner's case is being handled by the Santa Cantarina state prosecutor's office, which has offered her a plea deal. If she refuses the offer, she faces a large fine and up to a year in prison.

"The abuse of power and judgment by society that has happened to me demonstrates how the interpretation of the law reflects gendered behavior dictated by a patriarchal, violent culture about controlling women's bodies," the model believes.
