Maxm Galkin sang "Smereka" in Ukrainian

Russian showman Maxim Galkin, who has been living in Israel since the beginning of the full-scale war and actively supports Ukrainians, performed at a controversial festival in Jurmala, Latvia, organized by Laima Vaikule. To the surprise of Ukrainians, the comedian flawlessly performed the national song "Smereka."

Although this is not the first time Maxim Galkin has sung in Ukrainian, he shocked some of his audience and disappointed the other part, which was mostly Russians. The showman posted a video of the performance on Instagram.

The audience sang along with Maxim Galkin, and some of them danced while sitting on their chairs. Some moved to the tune with the Ukrainian flag. The Russian's performance was filmed by Ukrainian singer Andriy Danylko, better known as Verka Serdyuchka. At one point, the camera captured him up close and personal.

In the comments, subscribers praised Maxim Galkin for his good Ukrainian and criticized his compatriots who still claim that "language is out of politics."

  • "Even Maxim has already learned Ukrainian, and you haven't yet. It's incredible, thank you for your support!"
  • "What does honor, conscience, and dignity mean! A person has not betrayed himself, his values, and his beliefs! He will always be respected and remembered."
  • "How beautifully you sing in Ukrainian, you pronounce the words correctly, super."
  • "How beautiful! I can't sing like you do in my native Ukrainian, Max."
  • "After watching your video, I've been singing all day. I bow down to you for such a talent."

It is known that Laima Vaikule organized the festival in Jurmala under the slogan of helping Ukraine and condemning the war, and stars from different countries, including Russia, came to perform. It is possible that "good Russians" can be found among the audience. Some Ukrainians are convinced that such events create the illusion of "friendship of nations," which plays into the hands of the aggressor.
