Famous Ukrainian singer and TV presenter Kolya Serga, who joined the ranks of the Armed Forces after February 24 and now heads the Cultural Landing, realizes that his position was unconscious and infantile before. The artist did not accept the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbas and therefore tolerated everything Russian, continued to travel to Moscow and work there, and did not see any need to switch to his native language. However, things have changed dramatically now. Speaking about the mistakes of the past, Serhiy sincerely cannot hold back his tears.

This situation occurred during the filming of the documentary "Russification in Pop Style" by the Suspilne Culture channel. Serhiy shared a fragment from the project on his personal Instagram page.

The musician admits that his position, or rather the lack of it, was shameful. In particular, he was the host of a festival in the temporarily occupied Crimea in August 2015, while building a career in Russia. On the eve of the full-scale invasion, Serhiy announced a concert in Mykolaiv with Russian-language repertoire.

Unable to hold back tears, the singer repented: "I did not accept the annexation of Crimea. I did not accept the outbreak of war. And it was a very infantile position. If I had realized what was happening, would I have acted differently? Yes, I would have acted differently. I would have been on the Maidan among the best people... I plunged into the study of Ukrainian literature. And I immediately came across Mykola Khvyliovyi's Arabesques. I read it and was stunned. I was sitting there with tears streaming down my cheeks because I realized that I had been deceived. It was wow, it was world-class."

After February 24, Serhiy not only took up arms to defend his homeland from the enemy but also radically changed his attitude toward everything Russian, including the language.

"My transition was abrupt. I forbade myself to speak Russian. For example, I used to have a song called "God's Footprint". It's a Balinese song. In fact, in comparison, it's very easy to love life without war, but when war comes along and you... the global picture is complemented, and you see not God's footprint, as in that song, but God's shadow," the artist commented.

As OBOZ.UA wrote earlier, Kolya Serga has already spoken about his personal transformations after Russia's full-scale invasion. The artist admits that before that he "had no country" – he considered himself a citizen of the world and planned to live abroad. Now, according to his own words, Serhiy feels his identity and great sincere love for Ukraine as never before.
