King Charles III held his first official live meeting with Rishi Sunak after being diagnosed with cancer

King Charles III of the United Kingdom held his first official meeting at Buckingham Palace with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after the news of His Majesty's cancer. The King is expected to hold these meetings on a weekly basis.

Although Charles III canceled any public events after the diagnosis was announced, the Privy Council meeting with the Prime Minister is a priority for him despite his illness, as he had previously stated. For the past two weeks, he and Rishi Sunak have been holding weekly meetings by phone, as the king has been living in Sandringham in Norfolk, Hello!

"It is wonderful to see you looking so well," Sunak said. The king joked back, saying that "it was the mirrors that did it."

During the conversation, the Prime Minister verbally supported Charles III in his fight against the disease, and the latter recalled the letters sent by his fans wishing him a speedy recovery. I received so many wonderful messages and cards. Most of the time it brought me to tears," he said.

The King meets weekly with the Prime Minister to discuss government issues. By law, His Majesty is obliged to be neutral in politics, but he has the right to "advise and caution" any of his ministers in case of any issues and problems, which Charles III actively uses.

Due to his treatment, the King plans to skip the service of gratitude to his close friend and cousin, King Constantine II of Greece, who died in January 2023 at the age of 82. Instead, Queen Camilla is to attend the event at the memorial at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

As a reminder, on January 25, Charles III was hospitalized in a private London hospital due to an enlarged prostate. His surgery was successful, and a few days later the king went home.
