Kendrick Lamar's performance at Super Bowl 2025 could have been ruined: who was detained and why the rapper was not paid. Photo and video
Rapper Kendrick Lamar took part in the halftime show of the Super Bowl 2025, performing his most popular tracks. The artist had been preparing for the important event for a long time, but his performance was almost ruined by a man who began waving a flag with the words "Gaza" and "Sudan" on it.
According to CNN, citing information from representatives of the NFL, the man was part of a 400-person team working on the field. He showed the flag at the end of the artist's musical performance, but was immediately detained by security.
What is known about the incident
During his performance at the Super Bowl 2025, Kendrick Lamar performed his hits, including Squabble up, Humble, DNA, and Peakaboo. The artist even delighted the audience with the popular song Not Like Us, which last year led to a lawsuit between him and rapper Drake. The fact is that in this song, Lamar accused his stage colleague of having relations with minors and secret children. Although the performer left all the offensive words from the lyrics behind, he still failed to avoid unpleasant situations.
When the rapper was performing his last song of the show, a man dressed in a black suit, like all the other dancers, raised a flag above his head that resembled a combination of Sudanese and Palestinian flags with the words "Gaza" and "Sudan" written on it. He first climbed onto a car that had been on stage during Kendrick Lamar's show, and then ran with it for several seconds across the field until he was detained by security guards.
"The act by the individual was neither planned nor part of the production and was never in any rehearsal," said a representative of Roc Nation, the company that produced the show.
It is noted that after the incident, the man was permanently banned from all NFL stadiums and events.
Why the rapper was not paid
It's worth noting that despite the fact that Kendrick Lamar has been actively preparing for the Super Bowl 2025 for many months, he hasn't received a penny for the performance. The organizers pay all the costs of creating the concert, but no artist is paid for the musical performances.
According to People, this is because participating in the 15-minute halftime show is a great opportunity for artists to boost their album and concert ticket sales. Every year, the show becomes the most popular among viewers, so after performing at the Super Bowl, the artists' recognition increases significantly.
