The 42-year-old Princess of Wales is expected to stay in the hospital for the next 10-14 days. This is stated in an official statement by Kensington Palace, which was posted on Instagram.

"Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to the hospital yesterday for a routine abdominal surgery. The operation was successful and she is expected to remain in hospital for 10-14 days before returning home to continue her recovery," the statement said.

It also emphasizes that, given current medical advice, Catherine is unlikely to return to her duties until after Easter.

"The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. And she hopes that the public will understand her desire to keep her personal medical information confidential," Kensington Palace officials also emphasized.

Kate Middleton herself, as noted in a statement, hopes for a speedy recovery and apologizes for having to postpone previously planned events.
