Ivan Dorn called the situation in Ukraine a "nightmare" but did not mention the war or Russia as an aggressor: he is happy that he was abroad on February 24

Dorn recalled the war in Ukraine

Ukrainian singer Ivan Dorn, who is preparing an album of Russian-language songs and performed in Bali for Russians, called himself "happy" that he did not witness the "horror" in Ukraine at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion. The author of the hits "Shining" and "Stitsamen" explained that living abroad allowed him not to be as "radical" about Russians as his fellow citizens.

In an interview with the Kazakhstani YouTube channel Esquire Kazakhstan, Dorn also admitted that he had agreed to organize an apolitical festival in 2022. The Ukrainian was asked to do so by the organizers, who wanted to please listeners from all countries.

The Dove of Peace recalled that he last performed in Kazakhstan in 2022 at the Yunost festival.

Ivan Dorn called the situation in Ukraine a ''nightmare'' but did not mention the war or Russia as an aggressor: he is happy that he was abroad on February 24

"They were afraid that I would say some very patriotic things as a Ukrainian. They said: 'Please if you can make this festival as non-political as possible, we will be very grateful'... Everyone knows who I am, and what I am, and after February 24, we once again dotted the i's and crossed the t's. I'm very happy that I was lucky not to witness that horror personally because I don't know how I would have behaved, how I would have thought, and what would have changed in me," Dorn said.

In his speech, he never mentioned what the Russians did in Ukraine and how they continue to terrorize his fellow citizens today. Instead, the singer emphasized that it was the move that allowed him to see "more and less good" people, apparently referring to the so-called "good Russians."

"For most of my fellow citizens, this fear and all these emotions have had very serious consequences. They can't judge in terms of understanding and maybe looking more or less good people. They cannot afford it, they have a radical position, and I understand them perfectly. But at the same time, I am very lucky that I did not see it all," said Dorn, who has not returned to Ukraine for more than two years.

Reflecting on what can save the modern world, the artist said: forgiveness, understanding, and sincerity. The singer did not explain who and whom should be forgiven and understood.
