"I was very worried about my wife": Dr. Baby Dust star tells about meeting with Russian occupiers in Hostomel

At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Yaroslav Shakhtorin, a Ukrainian actor in Dr. Baby Dust and the four-part series Friends, was at home with his wife, actress Taisiia Khvostova, in Hostomel during the occupation of Kyiv region. This period was very nerve-wracking for him, but he was most worried about the life of his beloved.

The support of his actors and family helped Shakhtorin survive the horrific events of that time, he said in an interview with TSN. He recalled that he had put himself in danger because of his own curiosity, but it was all over. He only made eye contact with the occupier, who was a helicopter pilot flying over their house.

"The racist 'alligators' were flying over every morning and evening. They flew very low, at a height of 4-5 meters, and I was eager to see what they were. One day I went out, and when they flew over the house, I made eye contact with a helicopter pilot. It was scary," he said.

But Shakhtorin was most concerned not so much for his life as for his wife when the occupiers visited their home. "I was very worried about my wife. It was really scary when they went around the house. A soldier, maybe younger than I. He was in full gear, with a weapon, though he looked a little confused. Later, when we heard what these non-humans were doing in other villages and towns, we realized that we were just lucky," the actor recalled.

It is not known whether it was the occupation or the beginning of a full-scale invasion that had such an impact, but Shakhtorin immediately switched to using the Ukrainian language in conversation and in viewing content. The actor notes that social media still offers him a lot of Russian content, but he doesn't give up and confidently blocks it.
