"I saw that you know about nuclear bombs. There is one thing..." The hug between Mstyslav Chernov and Cillian Murphy at the Oscars caused a wave of memes

Videos and photos of Ukrainian videographer Mstyslav Chernov and Irish actor Cillian Murphy hugging after the Oscars 2024 ceremony caused a wave of memes. Social media users emphasized that the protagonist of the film Oppenheimer is an expert in nuclear bombs and hinted that he would help Ukraine develop weapons that would help destroy its main enemy, Russia.

The meme was published on the page of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on the social network X (formerly Twitter). Ukrainians could not pass by and began to react to the photo of the hug with witty comments.

The post also says that Chernov allegedly tells Murphy that he will give him the number of a certain Serhiy, and he will explain everything to the actor who played the developer of the atomic bomb, Robert Oppenheimer.

Later, a meme was added where Murphy allegedly talks on the phone with a well-known volunteer, Serhiy Sternenko, and offers him to name a weapon after Budanov.

Sergiy Sternenko is a Ukrainian volunteer who, together with representatives of leading companies and organizations, raised funds for Sea Baby drones for the Security Service of Ukraine, which is headed by Vasyl Malyuk.

Social media users emphasized that Murphy does not like to be called an English actor because he has Irish roots, just as Ukrainians do not like to be confused with Russians:

"Kilian doesn't like being called English either, just like some people confuse us with Russians."

In another post on X, someone commented that the director and actor were hugging and discussing the name of a new nuclear weapon.

Given that the video posted online had no sound, Ukrainians began to speculate on what Murphy might have said to the Ukrainian director. One possibility was that the Irish actor asked Chernov: "What about the Russians?"

As a reminder, Ukrainian military journalist Mstyslav Chernov won the first Oscar since Ukraine's independence this year for his documentary about the tragedy of Mariupol during the full-scale Russian invasion of 2022, 20 Days in Mariupol. The film was also created by photographer Yevhen Malolietka and producer Vasylisa Stepanenko.

The winner of the event was the film Oppenheimer, which was presented in 13 nominations and won 7 of them, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, etc. The main character of the film was played by Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who also received his Oscar.
