How to tell if a person is poor or rich by the shape of their face: unexpected study results
Scientists have conducted a study that revealed people's prejudice on wealth due to their face shape

How often have you thought about a person's social class based on their appearance? Scientists at the University of Glasgow in Scotland have concluded that the shape and features of the face are mostly responsible for the stereotypical perception of wealth.

The study involved 30 people with an average age of 22 years. The task was to look at 3D models of faces and determine their status and level of wealth. The experiment showed that cold skin tones were associated with distrust, while warm ones had the opposite reaction.

Those who were identified as "wealthy" were seen as more trustworthy, capable, and honest. "Their faces were narrower and longer with mouths turned up and a lighter, warmer complexion," the study said.

In contrast, "poor" people are characterized by lowered eyebrows, shorter chins, and colder skin tones, which makes them perceived as incompetent and distrustful. "Faces that were perceived as poor were wider, shorter, and flatter, with drooping mouths and darker and colder complexions," the researchers said.

One of the researchers, Thora Bjornsdottir, found that stereotypical perceptions are mostly negative towards "cold-skinned" people, "People who are considered to belong to a high or low social class are also often considered to have advantageous or disadvantageous traits, respectively. Such judgments are made even based on facial appearance alone, and this can have significant further consequences, including disadvantaging those who are considered to be of a lower social class."
