How legendary actor John Malkovich received an order from Ukraine in 2018, but soon enough stood up for the Russians

John Malkovich disappointed Ukrainians

American actor, producer and film director John Malkovich celebrates his 70th birthday today, December 9. For seven decades of his life, he has not had time to decide on his political position, so since 2014 he has been trying to please both Ukrainians and Russians.

The star of the action movie "On the Line" accepted the award in Kyiv 5 years ago, but when Ukraine really needed his help, he cowardly stood up for the Russians. OBOZ.UA decided to recall how the former friend of the independent state was afraid to declare his clear position.

On June 29, 2018, the two-time Oscar nominee landed at Boryspil airport, where he was met by journalists and escorted to the hall of official delegations.

John Malkovich took part in the concert of symphonic music "Ways of Friendship" on St. Sophia Square in Kyiv. Afterward, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, awarded the American with a high state award, the "Order of Merit" III degree.

During the visit, John Malkovich spoke about the "Russian conspiracy" in the United States: that Americans have no idea what is happening in Ukraine. According to him, our country was a "white spot for America, as if someone had erased it from the map." At that time, Donald Trump, known for his sympathy for Volodymyr Putin, was a president.

In 2022, however, Malkovich's rhetoric changed dramatically. Now he does not condemn either Americans or Russians, and considers the war to be a "tragedy." Last March, in an interview with a Russian journalist, the actor revealed that he himself lives in a country that is always starting wars, so "it's not for him to judge" Russia.

The star of the films "Mary Riley" and "Air Prison" made his next scandalous statement in September 2023. After learning about how Ukrainians lived through the winter without electricity, suffered from devastating shelling, ecocide, and occupation, the American could not think of anything better than to stand up for his Russian colleagues.

He has repeatedly visited Moscow, and in 2017 he even starred in the Russian film "About Love. For adults only". That is why the filmmaker does not support the global "distinction" of Russian actors and culture in general.

According to Malkovich, only negotiations with terrorists can resolve the war in Ukraine. He himself is not involved in charitable projects, and his profile still has photos from Moscow.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that on December 8, American actress Kim Basinger celebrated her 70th birthday, who loved to play erotic roles, take part in candid photo shoots, and have affairs with famous men.
